Fished Dillons pond(Central & Maize,Wichita)again today and caught 2 bullheads and 1 decent channel. All on worms. I'm ready for spring and the walleye run. Come on good weather days like this LOL.

White Perch are biting at Cheney already. Good ole night crawlers are all that's needed. They seem much larger in general so far. In two afternoons we already have alot of fillets. Also, Rusty caught a nice 28" Channel at the refuge.

El Dorado-Crappie are really biting on baked potatoes in brush piles at about 10-15 feet. They're slowly moving up. Pretty good amount of keepers in the bunch.

Baked potatoes? Do I just go get one from Wendy's or are home made ones better? :-)

Seriously though, I would assume that you were on a boat fishing for crappie in El Dorado? I can't wait for crappie to move in, thanks for the update!

Fished the dam at Cheney twice last week. 3-20-12 8:00-11:00 pm with crankbait and spinner with berkley gulp minnow. Windy, raining no bites.
3-22-12 6:00-9:30 pm with crankbait and medium size shiners. New Moon, low wind with one small White Bass on crankbait and 2 small White Bass on shiners. First go at fishing the dam. No one else was having luck that I talked with both days. I am curious as to where Walleye Island is as well... Anyone?

Walleye Island is roughly 2/3 maybe 3/4 the way up the lake. Just off middle of the lake to the east a touch. Its marked with a buoy or two. If you wait about another 3 weeks or so it will be marked with quite a few boats.

Went out to Cheney 03/25 fished off of a few different spots around the lake and without a bite at all. Used a few rapalas and jigs. It was a bit windy so that may have been a factor.

I have been out to Cheney about 5-6 times over the past few weeks. The Walleye are just not up on the dam rolling like they normally do. Early on I caught about 6 males (all shorts). Are they up and rolling yet? Is it all the rain? The unusually warm weather? What gives?

Also, has anyone else had any luck at El Dorado, Marion, or the other reservoirs around the area with good Walleye population?

Thanks in advance.

Jason

I wonder if the main Walleye spawn is over? I was wanting to try off the Cheney Dam but have never been. The past 2 or 3 weekends haven't worked out for me to go and time is slipping away.

was out at sunrise east of Cheney Dam, saw tons of fish lingering around 10ft from shore line. Caught a nice 26in walleye by bouncing off the bottom with a white/red roadrunner. will be out there tonight, trying with other jigs and cranks at sunset!

Anonymous said...

Are the walleye spawning at cheney still would like to get in on the action!

Anonymous said...

i fished all last week at Cedar bluff and Webster in western part of state. There the Walleye have left the damms and are in 20 ft. plus water. they are two to three weeks behind us so i bet the walleye are heading for the flats.

Fished dillons pond Central and Maize.....got several bites choked on the hook set. finally got it right cauge 3-4lb Largemouth. Also fish little area off of Harry and k-42 by friends university last night 4.30.12caught 3 nice size

Kimbli said...

anyone got any ideas on any wichita ponds with bass action??

Jo-el said...

Kimbli - harry and k-42? Isn't that at Newman U? I'd be careful unless you have permission, I think thats private. Emery park, near the drive-in has some good bass fishing. Not the biggest, but if you find them, you'll catch one every cast.

Will anyone share some of the decent spots to fish from the bank for crappie during the spawn, say within an hours drive from Wichita?

Thanks in advance for your help!

What baits is everyone using for bass. might be heading to emery park or dillons pond soon. thanks

Crappie fishing can be decent on the east side of el dorado. Not sure what the fish will be doing, I've been catching a lot of fish in 15-20ft fishing for walleye on other lakes. Weather seems to have them pretty messed up. Fall River and Toronto are also pretty good places. I fish up in the rivers over there and do alright. Good Luck!

Fished Marion Co. Lake afternoon Sunday. Had some success off the dam when whites and wipers were chasing shad with rattle traps, but didn't last long. Short bass and bluegills only other action. Also, blue-green algae showed up again yesterday, per the park ranger. Seemed to get worse as the day went on... grrrrrr.

I am very interesting to avail knowledge about fishing. I read this and your blog contain a lot of knowledge and information for every one so keep it up and 1 question why do fish push and move gravel in different places? And how can you tell if you have a male or female?
