Kids are our future they may be load and wild at times but if we cant teach them to fis and enjoy the outdoors we wont have any land to fish , we need to take our children and friends fishing teach them what we know maybe they will teach their kids

Anybody caught any walleye off the Dam at area Lakes?

Anonymous said...

I have been catching them for over 3 weeks already. The spawn is already winding down for most of the area lakes. Started to slow down this past week even with the warmer weather. I would say most fish will be done spawning by the end of the weekend.

Anonymous said...

Fished a farm pond close to Hays and caught 9 bass and 2 big sun fish on red 7" rubber worm an hour before dark.

Anonymous said...

I have not been fishing yet this year, but am planning on going this weekend. I will probably go to Webster. Has anyone been there recently, I could use some abvice. Have the walleye started spawning on the dam yet? I will let everyone know how it went.

Anonymous said...

Got 1 5 lb channel and 2 huge grass carp sunday at a pond close to me. Too bad the carp were taken by bow, as the biggest beat 50 lbs!!

Anonymous said...

what do you think about this weather and how do you think it will affect the walleye at cedar bluff?

Anonymous said...

Once they get started they will not stop. There is more involved than just the water temprature. The length of day the egg cycle and moon phases are all in play.

I,ve been fishing some coves at wilson around the bullrushes that are flooded and have caught lots of smallies, whites & small stripers. some 2lb. whites. I shure wish the smallies were 3 or 4lbs. but they are still alot of fun.

Anonymous said...

In which coves are you finding the flooded bullrushes?

Anonymous said...

Anybody been fishing at Webster lately for walleye or crappie. Are the mushrooms up around that area? Would like to do a fish and mushroom trip next week.

Anonymous said...

Fished Glen Elder on Friday afternoon, 4/17 and the white bass spawn has started. Caught about 25in 2 hours and kept the 12 biggest. Five of these were over 17" and 2 were over 18", smallest fish kept was 14.5". Everyone seemed to be catching them today. White curly tail jigs working best. I was fishing the South Fork near the big log jam. Plan on going back this weekend.

ONEWHEEL said...

Mushrooms will be hard to find at webster, water is at the south road and the 2 inches of rain last week the river is high, and will more than likely go over that south road later this week, lake is VERY FULL! Whites are going at cedar creek.

Anonymous said...

How has the Crappie bite going at any of the lakes in Region 1? Any information would be helpful.

Anonymous said...

Fished the dam at Cedar Bluff today. I caught 10 to 15 wipers. 1/8 oz white jig head and small white curly tail jig seemed to be the best. Action was very sporadic. Good luck fishing everyone and remember to pass on the info. TYLER

Anonymous said...

Anyone fished wilson for smallies lately?

Anonymous said...

Fished Wilson on 4/25 and 4/26 before the weather forced us off the lake. Caught several smallies on jig/worm and crankbaits. Also caught 5 17"+ walleyes. Starting to pick up.

Anonymous said...

4-28-09 7:00am fished Kanopolis in the river no luck. water was very fast and muddy. left the river and headed to the dam where water was more clear 9:00 am got three walleye right away on a chrome and blue lipless crank bait. Fished this lake for 7yrs and never caught a largemouth bass before. Ended up with 6 bass all between 12 and 14 inches. Any one know if these fish were recently stocked.

Anonymous said...

What's the fishing like at Webster Stillin Basin? Is it a good catfish and crappie spot?

Anonymous said...

LOL. I fished Kanopolis for 15 years and I caught my first largemouth aturday. A dink but a surprise.

Anonymous said...

fished Wilson 5-3-09 Sunday. had rain showers on and off all day. got to the lake at 2:00 pm fished till dark. me and a buddy ended up with 10 smallmouth 4 spoted and 8 walleye. Bass fishing was great. seems like that lake realy picks up when it rains. Had 5 keeper smallmouth alittle over 18lbs. 3 of our fish still had eggs big females. throwing a jerkbait and rattle trap around the dam and south coves on 12ft of water till dark. Kept all the walleyes and released all of our Bass. LOL

Anonymous said...

Fished Webster today. 3 keeper walleye, 2 over 18". Not too hot, but if you like drum they are plentiful! Lots of trees and water so be cautious!!

Anonymous said...

Has anyone been catching any Crappie?

PAPA said...

Fished Kanopolis today. Caught 6 whites, 4 drum, 1 carp and threw all of them back. One of the whites weighed two pounds. Also caught 10 walleye and kept four, the biggest one was 19 and 1/2 inches. Three were 16 inches and the other six wouldn't measure. Four were 14 and 1/2 inches and the other two were about ten inches. It was a good trip as we had a lot of action.

warfish1 said...

5-8-09 Question, which are the
best boat ramps open at Ceder Bluff? What about Page Creek?

Anonymous said...

any info on white bass or crappie at cedar bluff, fishing from shore what baits and what location?

Anonymous said...

Wilson 5-9, 7 Keeper Walleye, Kept 4 nice whites, full of eggs. two walleye over 19 inches. Had 4 people on the boat. My daughter caught her first walleye, but my son caught the biggest walleye. A great time!

Anonymous said...

Cedar bluff: Target white bass from the bank. I would try the dam or wading around the dam. Throw a rapala x-rap shad 3-5' diver or a small jig and curly tail. Crappie try a minnow on a slip bobber anywhere brush is thick. Crappie will be tough as cedar bluff is tough to fish from the bank. Webster is full and is very accessible from the bank. good luck fishing and remember to post. Tyler

warfish1 said...

fished ottawa sfl 5-11-09 caught 1 small bass in the boat ramp area water still muddy

Anonymous said...

I also fished Ottawa SFL on 5.11.09, had a very good day and almost hit the Grand Slam for the lake in one afternoon. Caught a few crappies, largemouth, 1 cat, 1 saugeye @ 19.5", and bluegill. I was trying my dangdest to catch a wiper, but couldn't complete the Slam. Crappies and Bass were full of eggs, so they're not done spawing just yet. Lake was indeed very murky, about 4" of visibility. A great day on the water though! Ryan

Anonymous said...

Fished Webster on 5-12. Weather was miserable. Drizzled most of the morning, with wind about 20 from the Southwest. Could not get too far from shore with the small boat we were in. Fished around the South boat ramp, rock pier, and South part of the dam. No walleye, but caught plenty of Drum. Not many good reports from the other anglers on that day, but have heard good reports of walleye fishing middle of the dam, and north side off of points in the evenings drifting jig and worm.

warfish1 said...

fished ottawa sfl on 5-13 for about in hour caught 1 crappie on a small spinner and one bass on a worm crappie was 12in

Anonymous said...

Fished Webster 5-12 got there about 5 pm. Caught alot of BIG Wipers. I used Rapalas on a point into the wind. Good luck fishing and remember to post. Tyler

nipper said...

Fished Kanopolis 5-15, caught 2 keeper walleye befor getting blown
off the lake. Any walleye on the flats at Wilson? Nipper

Anonymous said...

Fished Webster 5-16 we caught 5 walleye (jig and worm). 5 crappie (jig and minnow). 4 Wipers (jig and worm). We fished mostly around the church camp and swim beach areas. good luck fishing and remember to post how you did! Tyler

Anonymous said...

Fished Kanoplolis on 5-17 for crappie. Brother-in-law and I caught 59. Mostly back in Marina cove and buzzard bay. Will be back on Wednesday the 20th. Tube jigs under a float, 12 to 18 inches.

Anonymous said...

fished kanopolis on 5-19 at bolt bluff, caught tens of little whites about 30 ft from shore standing in water, then went to river by caves and caught 6 whites over 1 1/2 lbs, one of which was almost 5 lbs and lots of them under one pound.....

Anonymous said...

has anyone fished sheridan or webster wanting to make a trip curious where to fish at and what baits

Anonymous said...

caught a 5 lb bass and about 5 smaller ones but also lost a 5-6 lb bass caught all of them with a black jig a white plastic on it with a spinner the spinner was seperate, it wasnt a roadrunner though

Anonymous said...

the last comment was from me i meant to say i caught them at Norton

Anonymous said...

Response to the person wanting info on webster. People have been catching wiper, white bass, and some walleye from the bank. Target the points into the wind and throw a rapala minnow bait, Rattle trap or a white jig and twister tail. If your in a boat try for walleye in the trees by the swim beach or west by the church camp in 7 to 20 ft water, jig and worm. While doing that also drop a jig and minnow the crappie very well could be there, they were last week. I hope that will help get you on some fish. Good luck and remember to post how you did. TYLER

Anonymous said...

whoever you are who said you caught a 5 lb white bass, are you sure it wasnt a wiper because a 5 lb white bass is huge

Anonymous said...

Tyler. Do you ever fish Norton?

Anonymous said...

is Webster a good place to fish off the bank? if it is what kind of fish can you catch, where can you catch them, and with what bait and presentation? and best conditions

Anonymous said...

oh yeah...the white was fun to catch too.... caught on 1/4 oz jig painted pink with black/white eyes with a 3" white twister tail....good luck

Anonymous said...

i know a white from a wiper, it was a white and it was huge and old...

Anonymous said...

I have never fished norton. I target mostly webster and cedar bluff. I will be really hitting webster hard while the water is up, should be lookin at great fishing for the next 5 years. There is alot of places to fish from the bank, like the whole north side. Wiper fishing will be excellent this year, and even better for the next 5 years. channel cat fishing on the north side should be rockin too. South wind should be a plus in all cases. If the water stays up for at least 4 years it will again become an amazing crappie fishery. Good luck fishing and remember to post. TYLER

Anonymous said...

It won't take 4 years for it to become an amazing crappie fishery. Next year should be pretty darn good. The average life span of a crappie is only 2-3 years.

Anonymous said...

Spent the last three days at Cedar Bluff pitching jigs for crappie. Kept 47 and threw over a dozen back. One walleye and about 15 white bass. Biggest crappie was 14. Coves were glassed over Sunday morning and visibility was great. Could watch them come out of brush and hit jig. They were in water anywhere from 2' to 10'.

Anonymous said...

Went to webster this morning, ended up with 3 small walleye 2 crappie. We fished around the church camp 18' I think. Apparently I wasn't in the right spot, I recently got news of large limits taken this morning. I really never realized how clear the water is on a calm day, I could see my jig and worm down to
8'. Good luck fishing and remember to post. TYLER

Anonymous said...

Fished Webster on 5-23 and ended up with 6 nice whites, and a couple of 18-20" walleye. Most boats I've seen out in a while. Weather was nice, but from talking to the others, fishing was sporadic. Fished with jig and worm, and black spinner. Caught most of the white's and both walleye on the spinner west of the church camp in about 10-20'. Water is very clear for Webster.

Anonymous said...

How are the boat ramps at Ceder
Bluff? Can you still put in at
Page Creek?

Anonymous said...

Fri/Sat/Sun fished Gibbs Point at Glen Elder. Picked up 1 keeper walleye Friday, 6 Saturday (3 of us) and 1 Sunday. Drifted jigheads and worms, orange worked the best. Caught a few dozen cigars and 16-17" walleye as well. Drifted in 6-8' of water. If we got deeper into the 16' range all we caught were drum.

Anonymous said...

Fished webster this evening. One keeper walleye, threw back 5 small ones. Fished the trees south of the church camp. Slow rolled a jig and worm. Good luck fishing TYLER

Dave Spalsbury said...

Regarding the question about boat ramp accessibility at Cedar Bluff. The reservoir is currently 16.6' below full pool, and three boat ramps are useable at the current elevation.

Muley boat ramp in Page Creek is one of the useable ramps. Other usable boatramps include the Overland boat ramp in the north shore State Park and the boat ramp east of Cove 3 in the north shore Wildlife Area.

We made our first trip to Cedar Bluff june 5th and 6th after years of wanting to get up there. Fishing was fair, caught Crappie and white bass from the boat, nothing from shore. We were disappointed in the condition of the lake, so low and below surface underwater timbers were not marked, recieved some damage to the boat. Camping area in overton very nice, playground equipment in bad shape, showers were ice cold but very nice shower houses. Rangers were plenty and pleasant. Park definately in need of maintenence funds. Didn't attempt to put in on south shore, looked too "ify". Could be a wonderful place. on a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, would rate it 3. Probably won't return, unless improvements are done, and water level comes up.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone been catching any walleye in the last week at either Wilson or Webster? Didn't know how the cooler weather was effecting things as I haven't been able to get out for a while.

Thanks.

Anonymous said...

caught about 30 walleye at glen elder last week only 2 keepers

Anonymous said...

Fished webster this weekend caught some walleye, crappie, drum, channel cat, white bass, wiper, largemouth bass and a bluegill. Could not catch a carp so tried like hell to shoot one with my bow. I hit one, however my line broke and lost my arrow...Sooo close to a Grand Slam. Cleaned one 6 pound wiper, all the others were too small. Fishing was good but finding anything big was tough. Good luck fishing and remember to post.

Anonymous said...

where did you catch the white bass at?

Anonymous said...

In the lip.

Anonymous said...

haa ha ha good one, maybe it was at the baitshop

Anonymous said...

Going to Wilson. Any tips to catch fish? Bass, Walleye, Crappie, or Whites?

Anonymous said...

Fished Ottawa SFL 7.6.09 caught a few sub-legal bass, short crappies, and a couple of cats. Fishing seemed to be tough.
Oh, and for whoever is managing this lake, the north fish feeder is either empty, or broken. It did go off at 7:00pm like it should, but nothing fell in the water. Could hear the motor run though. So either it's clogged up and not dropping feed to the water, or empty.
Thanks. Ryan

Anonymous said...

Why is it that all the other lakes in kansas are full and cedar bluff is 16 foot below.

Anonymous said...

Because whenever it does get any water in it they open the gates and let it out.

Anonymous said...

They let water out bec ause Hays whines about needing water. Nevermind the fact that it never gets that far east when they do release it.Dumbest thing I've ever heard of. KDWP needs to put a stop to this foolishness.

Jason said...

Going to Wilson next weekend for the first time ever. Pretty pumped up about going as I have heard lots of great things about it. That being said, I don't know where to start when it comes to fishing it. I would like to get into some Stripers/Walleye/White Bass. Any tips for a first timer to Wilson? Will have a boat. The fishing report says popping top in the morning and in deep water in the evening. Where at though? What kind of baits/lures work best?

Thanks,

Jason

Fish usually star at North end by the Dam and work south. We get most top water action between Handicap boat ramp and camp grounds at Lucas. Throwing a smaller version of the Zara Spook.
When fishing deep I'm in about 25-30 feet of water.

Anonymous said...

I am going to webster for a week and im leaving tuesday. Are the walleye still biting? Has anyone picked up any channel cat. I have a bucket full of chum ready to go, just don't know where to try it. TYLER

Anonymous said...

Walleye are pretty much done for the summer unless you know how to find suspended fish in deep water. Caught some nice cats last week by the church camp. BOB

Anonymous said...

Fished Webster 7-21 to 7-26. Fishing was slow for the most part. We did have a few good days where fishing was fair to good. There are still some walleye being caught southwest of marina cove in the trees. The channel cat seemed to be spread out, caught a few here and there. We chummed by the rock point boat ramp, no success. The small white bass can be caught everywhere. Good luck fishing!!

Tyler

Fished webster 7-26. Caught tons of small walleye and some keepers. Fish were in 11' of water. Can't believe they are that shallow this time of year.

Jason said...

Wow... What a great first experience on Wilson. I trolled shad colored deep diving crankbaots and crawdad colored wiggle warts and caught a ton of Striper, Walleye, and Smallies. Fishing was definitely better in the early AM. Will be back for sure. What a great lake!!!!

Caught some nice wiper and walleye today. Slow for the most part but still caught plenty of fish. D

How has the fishing at rooks, or webster been lately? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

My father fished webster yesterday and did not get a bite all morning. Today They caught a 2 pound channel cat, 2 crappie and 2 white bass. I don't even know why I told you that, I'm very dissapointed in everyone who reads these and and does not post. Good luck fishing, (for those who post)

Nobody really cares to read that your father didn't catch anything.

Interested in doing a trip to Wilson mid October. Never been but Im hearing good things. I was hoping to get some feed back on the fall fishing there. I'm a big fan of stripers (fish for them down in AR)... also would love to catch some walleye. Is there a cheap place to stay that has good access to the lake/ramp? they'll be 3 of us. Thanks for any and all input.

Anonymous said...

The state park cabins are pretty nice and only about 100yds from the boat ramp at Wilson. At $60-70/night plus $4/day vehicle permit, they are pretty affordable as well. I would contact the State Park as soon as you know the date of your trip as they sometimes are booked well in advance. The town of Wilson also has the Sportsman's Lodge and a Bed and Breakfast. About 7 miles to the lake from Wilson.
I do not know much about the fall fishing, but everything I heard from the spring was pretty positive. Sounds like the fishery is in good shape and there are good amounts of keeper size walleye and stripers. Good luck.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the post above... we'll check it out!

Anonymous said...

Does anybody have any kind of report for cedar bluff? We are interested in Crappie and Walleye. Don't know what the lake is like with north winds, but heard in Nov the crappie are pretty active there. ANY info would be great!

Anonymous said...

Anybody tried any ice fishing on Cedar Bluff, Wilson, Glenn Elder? Know there has been some ice on for awhile and know some have ventured out, just curious if any fish are being caught.

warfish1 said...

ice fished at lakewood park on 12-18 and 12-19 with a buddy. we both got a limit of rainbow trout both days including one about three pounds. fished in front of dam with about 5 inches of ice

Anonymous said...

Iced fished at Wilson Lake, there was about 6-8 inches of ice on December 17-18. Caught about 30 whites, 10 stripers, and 2 walleye back in the west end. Fish were biting on bucktails and slab spoons. Fished seemed to slow towards the afternoon but hit very well in the morning.

Brandon said...

Thanks for the Wilson report. I'm interested in what the warm weather did to the ice and what effect the upcoming cold weather will have on the ice. If anyone is gonna ice fish Wilson in the next week, please send me a personal message. (bmhines26@gmail.com)I would like to give it a try, but am a bit reluctant to get out on new ice by myself.

Brandon said...

Ice fished Sebelius early last week and caught at least 40 crappie. I used ratsos tipped with meal worm and swedish pimples tipped with crappie nibbles. The public fishing dock was the key. Others caught gills and even largemouth near the fish attractor in Leota cove.

Ice fished at Webster last Sunday (1/2/10) went to bow city and out to the tree lines. NO LUCK on the south side. Packed up and went to the stilling basin. Caught 4 trout, but it was slow going. The ice is THICK everywhere, the birds have an open spot on the reservoir but don't let that fool you, the ice is THICK 9" plus on the south side.
